I had the pleasure of attending Thane Dunn’s concert at Holy Heart Auditorium last week to shoot some promotional footage of his act. For anyone that doesn’t know who Thane Dunn is, he is a professional Elvis impersonator from Moncton, New Brunswick. Thane has won multiple awards including the #1 title at the world’s largest international Elvis tribute competition in 2009 as well as the #1 spot at The Elvis Gospel Competition in 2012. If you have ever seen Elvis impersonators before, I can assure you, this guy will put them all to shame. He looks, sounds and acts like Elvis.
After the show when we were interviewing some of the audience members, a lot of big Elvis fans raved about how you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Thane and Elvis himself. They said it’s like going back in time. I was never old enough to see Elvis perform in person but I can believe it from watching videos of Elvis perform back in the 60s. I think Thane’s act would give momentum to the “Elvis faked his death” conspiracy (outside of the fact that Elvis would be 79 if he were alive today). Just take a look at these two photos. The photo on the top is Thane and the photo on the bottom is the original king in all his blinged out glory. See what I mean?
If you are an Elvis fan, keep an eye out for Thane’s next show in your area. He is coming back to St. John’s Jan. 8 & 9, and you can buy tickets here! Thane also has a Facebook Page that is updated frequently as well as a website that lists his showtimes. Even if you aren’t a huge Elvis fan, the show is still great and most anyone can appreciate a craft as well-honed as Thane’s.
