I have a NEW documentary in the works!!

This is pretty exciting news! I am officially working on my first TV hour documentary for CBC, as part of the Absolutely Canadian series. This doc will be shot entirely in Newfoundland and it’s about the mobile workforce, people who have employment-related travel and it will be supported by CBC, On the Move Partnership and the NLFDC.

I am currently in the pre-production process of working out contracts and looking for main subjects to be in the film so if you know any of the following 3 people that might be interested in being in it feel free to reach out to me (info@tinbirdproductions.com) and say hi!

  • Single mother using public transit to get to and from her job
  • A fly-in/fly-out worker with a family in Newfoundland
  • A single/divorced male truck driver

The shoot itself will be very low key and it may just be me with my camera and a few lights fyi!

I’m going to be shooting an episode of Canada’s a Drag for CBC!!!

I’ll be doing a 5 minute documentary on local St. John’s drag queen, Irma Gerd!! We will be shooting her performance on Dec. 14th at Treble Lounge around 8pm so if you want to come join the audience you are more than welcome! It’s going to be super fun! 🙂

This is the first time Canada’s a Drag has come to Newfoundland and it will be nationwide!!!! Also, the season starts airing in January 2019 so stay tuned as I will post info about the time/date this episode will be on air!

The Nickel Film Festival’s School Tour

I recently went on a school tour sponsored by Reel Youth and The Nickel Independent Film Festival. We went to 4 different schools in central, western and norther Newfoundland to be film mentors for students making documentaries.

These films will be screened as part of the Nickel Film Festival in June so stay tuned for updates! I will be editing one (maybe two) depending on my schedule and if I can squeeze it in! Take a look at some of our behind-the-scenes photos. Some were taken by the students themselves!

Flight of the Fisherman has been selected by the Nickel Film Festival :)

Yayyy!! Come see “Flight of the Fisherman” at the Nickel Film Festival for it’s North American premiere! The festival runs June 20-24th this year and it’s a lot of fun to attend. This film was shot, edited and directed by me (Lian Morrison) on the Li River in China and it was my first documentary I ever did. Shooting documentaries is my favourite thing to do and I’m working on shooting more this year and next in Newfoundland.

Also note: this will be a Canadian premiere for this documentary, how fun!!

Documentary Filmmaking in China!

Back in March/April I was in China to shoot a documentary on a Cormorant fisherman! The documentary is going to be online soon and I’ll post a blog about my experience here so stay tuned!
